Struggling god Yato faces a vengeful war god, a mysterious threat, and the difficult choice of helping his human friend, all while remaining broke.

📖 SYNOPSIS

With no shrine, no followers, and a going rate of five yen per job, Yato is the kind of god who'll find your lost cat, clean your bathroom, whatever it takes to scrape together enough faith to matter. Noragami Aragoto, the 13-episode second season, picks up after he's patched things up with Yukine, his Regalia (basically a spirit that transforms into his weapon), and Hiyori, the high school girl whose soul keeps popping out of her body because she got tangled up in his mess. Things feel stable for about five minutes before the real conflict kicks in — Bishamon, the goddess of war, has a grudge against Yato that goes way back, and it's the kind of grudge that leads to full-scale divine warfare rather than passive-aggressive comments. Studio Bones handles the action here, and the fight choreography is fluid and sharp, grounded in Shinto mythology but staged like the best supernatural throwdowns you've seen in something like Bleach or Blue Exorcist. What sets this apart is how much weight the quiet moments carry. The relationships between these characters — particularly Yato and Yukine — hit harder than they have any right to in a shounen action series. There's real grief underneath the humor and the sword fights. If you liked Kamisama Kiss but wanted something with more edge, or you're into mythological settings where gods feel messy and human, this one earns your time.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You loved Season 1 and want deeper backstory on Yato and Bishamon's bitter rivalry
Japanese mythology blended with emotional character arcs—especially god-Regalia dynamics—is your thing
Studio Bones' action scenes hit hard here, particularly during the Bishamon arc's climax
The OP "Kyōran Hey Kids!!" alone sets the tone—you dig high-energy soundtracks with your supernatural anime

❌ SKIP IF...

You want pure non-stop action—this season leans heavily into character drama and relationship tension
New side characters getting introduced without enough screen time to flesh them out bothers you
You prefer evenly paced arcs—some episodes here feel rushed while others slow way down
