Long before the modern era, ninja clans shaped the course of Japanese history, but after the Meiji Restoration scattered them across the country, their bloodlines thinned and their abilities faded. Fast forward to the near future, and the descendants of those clans have banded together into the World Ninja Association to keep their heritage alive. Their big breakthrough? Ninja-Gum — a substance that can reawaken dormant ninja powers in anyone with the right bloodline. Three researchers named Burton, Berecca, and Ron manage to crack the formula, but their success pulls them straight into the Ninjala Tournament, a competition designed to find the strongest ninja among all the remaining descendants. The premise is goofy in the best way — chewing gum as a power system that lets you craft weapons, transform, and pull off ridiculous combat moves. OLM handles the animation, and the fight sequences have this bright, kinetic energy that keeps things moving. The tone stays light and adventurous, never taking itself too seriously, which makes it easy to just settle in and enjoy the ride. If you grew up watching Nintama Rantarō or got a kick out of the absurdity of Ninja Nonsense, this hits a similar sweet spot where ninja tradition meets pure fun. It's based on the Nintendo Switch game, but you don't need any familiarity with it — the show stands on its own as a colorful action romp with a surprisingly creative hook.
