New Fist of the North Star
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In a dying world, Kenshiro walks and kills people by touching them. That's not even an exaggeration — his martial art, Hokuto Shinken, targets pressure points so precisely that enemies explode from the inside a few seconds after he's already walked away. This 3-episode OVA from 2003 drops you into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where water is the only thing worth fighting over, most of it is poisoned, and a tyrant named Sanga has decided that means he gets to own everyone who's still alive. The story kicks off when a wanderer named Tobi gets ambushed while searching for clean water for his village, and Kenshiro appears out of nowhere to remind Sanga's men that being armed doesn't matter much against someone who can kill you before you blink. The setup is lean and grim — no long world-building dumps, just immediate violence and a slowly building conflict between an unstoppable fighter and a regime built on fear and thirst. The animation leans into the bleakness, and the atmosphere stays heavy throughout. If you grew up watching the original Fist of the North Star and want something with that same brutal energy but tighter storytelling, this scratches that itch. It also sits comfortably next to Berserk in terms of dark tone and brutal action, or Mad Max if you prefer live-action comparisons. It's short, it's dark, and it doesn't waste your time.
