Negima!? Magister Negi Magi: Summer
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When Nodoka Miyazaki casts the Red String of Fate hoping it will connect her to her destined partner — her ten-year-old teacher Negi Springfield — she discovers it's actually just... a red string. An unbreakable magical red string that won't dissolve until midnight. Smooth. That's basically the setup for this single OVA from Studio SHAFT, and it runs with the awkwardness in every direction it can. Meanwhile, their classmate Ayaka has invited everyone to her family's spa resort, so now Nodoka and Negi have to navigate a full class trip while literally attached to each other. The comedy lands mostly because the characters are so distinct — Nodoka is painfully shy, Negi is oblivious and earnest, and the rest of the class has exactly zero chill about the situation. SHAFT gives it that slightly off-kilter visual style they're known for, which fits the chaotic energy well. It's lighthearted, a little awkward in the way ecchi comedy tends to be, and not trying to be anything more than a fun standalone episode. If you enjoyed the ensemble chaos of Love Hina or the classroom antics in Azumanga Daioh, the dynamic here will feel familiar. It's not a deep dive into the Negima story — more of a breezy side adventure that works fine even if you're not caught up on the main series.
