Natsume's Book of Friends Season 6 Specials
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Ever since childhood, Takashi Natsume has been burdened with the ability to see spirits, and he finds that most of them want something from him. These two special episodes from Season 6 of Natsume's Book of Friends are exactly what you'd expect from the series — quiet, bittersweet stories about a kind-hearted guy helping youkai with their unfinished business. In the first episode, Natsume meets the dying spirit of a tree that was struck by lightning and cut down. The spirit's last wish is simple: just bring him water each day until he fades away. That's it. And somehow it hits harder than most action climaxes you've seen this year. The second episode continues in the same gentle rhythm, giving Natsume and his round, cranky cat companion Nyanko-sensei another small but meaningful encounter. If you liked the meditative atmosphere of Mushishi or the warmth of The Ancient Magus' Bride, this lives in that same emotional neighborhood. It's not trying to dazzle you with plot twists or spectacle — it's two episodes of a guy being compassionate toward creatures most people can't even see, set against Shuka's consistently lovely rural landscapes. Fans of Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits will feel right at home with the mythology woven through everyday life here. You don't strictly need to have watched all five previous seasons to appreciate these specials, but they'll mean more if you already care about Natsume. And honestly, you probably should.
