MF GHOST
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In a near-future Japan, self-driving electric cars have taken over the roads and gasoline engines are basically relics. Now picture an underground racing league that exists specifically to keep those relics alive — roaring V8s, turbocharged inline-sixes, and one kid in a humble Toyota 86 trying to compete against supercars worth ten times his ride. That's where Kanata Rivington comes in. He's a 19-year-old Japanese-British driver fresh out of a prestigious racing school in England, entering Japan's MFG street racing circuit to prove himself and track down his missing father. The MFG is no joke either — 30 million online viewers, a 100 million yen prize, and a ranking system called the Godly Fifteen that separates legends from everyone else. The whole thing is set in the same universe as Initial D, with Ryosuke Takahashi himself having founded the organization. If you grew up watching Initial D or Wangan Midnight, this is that same DNA filtered through modern animation and a near-future setting. Felix Film put real effort into making the car models look faithful and the racing sequences feel kinetic, and yes, there's Eurobeat on the soundtrack. The emotional core is quieter than you'd expect — Kanata's search for his father gives the 12-episode TV series a personal thread running beneath all the drifting. If you liked Capeta's underdog racing angle, this scratches a similar itch with a slicker coat of paint.
