Synopsis
At just 14 years old, Hayato Kazami won a championship as a racing driver, and now everyone expects him to do it again. That's already a lot of pressure for a 14-year-old. Welcome to the 11th Cyber Formula World Grand Prix, where the cars run on AI computer systems called Cyber Systems, and the competition is brutal enough to break people, not just machines. Hayato's back behind the wheel of the new Super Asurada AKF-11, developed by his own father, trying to find the form that made him a champion. But the harder problem isn't the car — it's that Osamu Sugo, someone Hayato genuinely trusted, has returned to the circuit and publicly named him as an enemy. That shift from mentor-or-ally energy to rival-who-means-it is where the drama really lives. This is a 6-episode OVA, so it moves fast and doesn't waste time on filler. The racing sequences feel grounded despite the futuristic tech, and the emotional stakes between characters give it weight that a pure action series wouldn't have. If you grew up on Initial D and liked the idea of rivalry driving character development as much as lap times, this scratches that itch. Fans of IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix will also recognize the vibe — high-concept sci-fi racing wrapped around genuinely human stories. It's a Sunrise production from 1992, and the craft shows.
