Future GPX Cyber Formula
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When a 14-year-old kid accidentally becomes the pilot of the most advanced racing machine on the planet, the car basically won't let anyone else drive it. That's how Hayato Kazami gets dragged into the Cyber Formula Grand Prix, a futuristic motorsport where every vehicle runs with an onboard AI system handling navigation, strategy, and split-second decisions. Hayato's car, Asurada, is the bleeding edge of that technology — and it chose him, which does not make the professional drivers sharing the track with him very happy. The early episodes set up this nice tension between Hayato's raw instinct and his total lack of experience. He's not a prodigy who trained his whole life. He's a teenager who got thrown into the deep end, backed by Team Sugo, and now has to figure out what racing actually means beyond just going fast with a smart computer doing half the work. The show sits somewhere between a coming-of-age story and a high-speed action series. The races have genuine strategic depth — it's not just who has the best machine. If you grew up watching Initial D and want something with a more futuristic, AI-integrated angle, this scratches a similar itch. Fans of IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix will also recognize the DNA here, since Cyber Formula was doing this kind of tech-forward racing story decades earlier. It's a 37-episode TV series from Sunrise, and the pacing gives Hayato's growth real room to breathe.
