Air Gear

Synopsis
Going by 'Ikki,' middle school delinquent Itsuki Minami thinks he's the toughest kid on the block, until a gang on motorized inline skates called Air Trecks absolutely humiliates him. Turns out the girls he lives with, the Noyamano sisters, are secretly elite riders in this underground world where teams wager pride and parts in high-speed street battles. Once Ikki straps on a pair of ATs, he's hooked, and he starts building his own crew to climb the ranks. The vibe here is pure mid-2000s shounen energy — street gangs, rivalries, a loud protagonist who refuses to back down, and trick sequences that basically treat gravity as a suggestion. The animation from Toei leans hard into fluid motion during the AT battles, and the soundtrack mixes hip-hop and electronic beats that genuinely fit the urban setting. There's a decent amount of ecchi scattered throughout, so fair warning on that front. If you liked the gang hierarchy and fighting spirit of Tenjho Tenge, or the way Katekyo Hitman Reborn slowly builds a delinquent kid into something more, this scratches a similar itch. It also shares DNA with Air Master in how it treats its combat as half sport, half spectacle. At 25 episodes, it doesn't overstay its welcome, and Ikki's climb from cocky street kid to legitimate contender keeps things moving. Worth your time if you're into that youthful, rebellious sports-action blend.
