But what keeps it from being one-note is that both of them are clearly changing. Medaka's resolve isn't as bulletproof as he pretends, and Mona starts realizing this stopped being a game a while ago. If you liked the mind games in Kaguya-sama: Love is War or the persistent teasing dynamic in Teasing Master Takagi-san, this hits a similar sweet spot — except the barrier isn't pride, it's an entire religious lifestyle. The premise sounds like a gag, but the character work underneath gives it actual weight. It's a romance where one person is literally training themselves not to fall in love, which makes every small moment of weakness land that much harder.
