MASHIN CREATOR WATARU
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Wataru Hoshibe is a ten-year-old who dreams of becoming a famous video content creator, so getting isekai'd into a world made of floating blocks is pretty much the last thing he expects. That's his situation in Mashin Souzouden Wataru, a 24-episode TV series from Bandai Namco Pictures that updates the classic Wataru franchise for 2025 by giving its hero a distinctly modern twist — he's a 'RyuTuber,' basically a kid YouTuber, except now he's stuck in a parallel world called Chubukai with a magical mecha partner named Ryujinmaru and a villain named Enjoda draining all the fun out of everything. The block-based world design gives the whole thing a playful, almost game-like aesthetic, and the comedic tone keeps things light even when Wataru's in over his head. It's got that same energy as older mecha-adventure shows like Madou King Granzort or NG Knight Lamune & 40 — kid gets transported to a fantasy world, teams up with a cool robot, fights evil — but filtered through a lens that feels relevant to how kids actually think about the world now, with content creation baked into the protagonist's identity rather than tacked on. If you liked Yamato Takeru's blend of mythology and mecha action but want something more comedic and modern, this fits that niche pretty well. It's bright, it's silly, and the mecha designs have that classic Sunrise-lineage charm that hits different if you grew up on these kinds of shows.
