Synopsis

From Magical Land — think sparkling fairy tale kingdom, adorable mascot, the whole package — comes Punie Tanaka, a princess who's been sent to spend a year at a Japanese high school before she can inherit the throne. On the surface, she's sweet, cheerful, and impossibly cute. Then someone crosses her. The mask drops, the wrestling holds come out, and suddenly this 4-episode OVA is doing something very different from the magical girl shows that inspired it. Her animal companion Paya-tan, who's supposed to be the loyal sidekick, actively despises her and spends most of his time plotting her murder. That dynamic alone carries a lot of the comedy. The humor here is deadpan and mean in the best way — it works because the show commits fully to the premise without winking at the camera too hard. If you liked Mahou Shoujo Ore or Dropkick on My Devil for their genre-poking comedic energy, this fits right alongside them, though it leans harder into the absurdity. It's a short watch, four episodes, so there's no real investment required. Just don't go in expecting a sincere magical girl story — the whole point is that Punie is kind of terrifying, and the show finds that genuinely funny rather than edgy. Good palate cleanser between heavier stuff.
