Synopsis

Don't let the bubbly smile and animal companion fool you — Punie Tanaka is your typical sweet, cheerful magical girl and princess of a magical kingdom in appearance only. The catch is that her idea of conflict resolution involves pro-wrestling submission holds and zero hesitation about using them on anyone who gets in her way. These four short omake episodes drop you into her daily life as she attends a Japanese high school while technically on a year-long goodwill mission to prove she deserves the throne back home. Her animal mascot, Paya-tan, is supposed to be her cute sidekick. He actually despises her and keeps trying to kill her. That dynamic alone carries a lot of the humor. The episodes are quick — bite-sized chunks that lean hard into the gap between the saccharine magical girl aesthetic and the casual brutality underneath it. There's no deep story here, just a consistent comedic premise played straight enough that the absurdity lands. If you watched Mahou Shoujo Ore and liked the idea of magical girl conventions getting quietly dismantled, this is in that territory. Fans of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? who enjoy genre parody with a mean streak will also find something familiar. It works best if you go in knowing it's pure gag comedy — short, weird, and committed to its bit. The cute art doing a lot of heavy lifting while characters casually inflict chaos on each other is basically the whole appeal, and it delivers that reliably.
