EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming off Episode 4's focus on Fantine's suffering, this episode pivots toward the Valjean-Javert dynamic that will define much of the series' tension. At only Episode 5 of 52, it functions as an early but significant escalation — establishing Javert as a genuine, formidable presence before the narrative shifts in Episode 6 toward Cosette and her evolving bond with Valjean.
