Kingdom: Season 4
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A war orphan with zero status and way too much ambition, Xin is trying to claw his way up to becoming the greatest general under heaven in a land torn apart by warring kingdoms. By season four, you'd think the guy could catch a break after surviving the brutal coalition war, but nah. The state of Qin is barely recovering when the political knives come out. King Ying Zheng earned the people's trust by stepping up during the war, but his rival Lü Buwei is scheming to sabotage his coming-of-age ceremony in 18 months, which would basically end Zheng's legitimacy. And just to keep things interesting, a Zhao army is marching toward the border. This season leans hard into the court intrigue side alongside the battlefield tactics, and the tension between those two fronts is what makes Kingdom so compelling. The battles aren't just spectacle — they're chess matches where generals read terrain, morale, and each other. Twenty-six episodes of political maneuvering and large-scale warfare adapted from a seinen manga that actually respects its historical setting. If you liked the strategic depth of The Twelve Kingdoms or the military drama in something like King's Raid: Successors of the Will, this scratches a similar itch but with way more ground-level combat. Fair warning though — you really need to watch the first three seasons. This is not a jumping-on point, but the payoff for getting here is worth it.
