In the war-torn era of ancient China, Qin's ambition to unify the land clashes with internal palace struggles and the military might of neighboring states like Wei.

📖 SYNOPSIS

Starting from nothing as a slave with no name or status, Xin wants to become the greatest general in Chinese history. That alone would be a solid pitch, but Kingdom's second season is where the series really finds its stride. After surviving a brutal war with the state of Zhao, Xin now leads his own 300-man unit and is hungry to prove himself on bigger battlefields. The State of Qin sets its sights on Wei as the next step in King Ying Zheng's plan to unify all of China, and Xin's unit gets thrown right into the middle of it. What makes this season work is how it layers in rival commanders — young officers from noble families who look down on a nobody like Xin — and forces them all onto the same battlefield where only results matter. The military strategy here feels genuinely thought out, not just "charge forward and win through willpower." Formations, terrain, supply lines — it all plays a role. If you liked the war politics in Vinland Saga or the underdog military campaigns in Arslan Senki, this scratches a similar itch but with ancient China's Warring States period as the backdrop. It's a 39-episode TV series based on a seinen manga, so it doesn't shy away from the ugliness of war or the cost of ambition. The pacing can be slow in spots, but when the battles hit, the stakes feel earned. Sengoku Basara fans looking for something grittier and more grounded should give this a look too.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You loved Season 1's foundation and want Xin leading his own 300-man unit into bigger wars
Large-scale military strategy mixed with political scheming across 39 episodes sounds like your thing
Studio Pierrot's animation improves here — battle scenes look noticeably better than Season 1
Character growth matters to you — Xin and the supporting cast develop significantly this season

❌ SKIP IF...

You haven't finished Season 1 — this picks up directly after the Zhao campaign with zero recap
Detailed war exposition and strategic planning slow things down — pure non-stop action this isn't
You'd rather read the manga — the source material's art still outshines Studio Pierrot's adaptation
