Kidou Senshi Gundam: Senkou no Hathaway 3
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Having spent his whole life watching his father fight for the Earth Federation, Hathaway Noa has now decided the Federation itself is the enemy. Set in Universal Century 0105, twelve years after Char's Counterattack, this is the final chapter in a trilogy where Hathaway leads a rebel group called Mafty, carrying out assassinations against corrupt officials while hiding behind an alias. The first two films already established the tension between Hathaway, the sharp and mysterious Gigi Andalucia, and Kenneth Sleg — a Federation officer who's genuinely decent, which makes everything harder. This third movie is where all of that comes to a head. The tone throughout has been quiet and heavy, more political thriller than mecha action, though when the mechs do show up, Sunrise and Hiroyuki Sawano's score make sure you feel it in your chest. If you liked the moral weight of Code Geass but wished it took itself more seriously, or if Gundam 0083's Federation cynicism stuck with you, this is that energy refined and grown up. It's a story about whether violence against a corrupt system is justified, and it doesn't give you easy answers. The animation blends traditional work with CG in a way that actually looks cohesive, especially during combat. Not a casual watch — you need the first two films and ideally some UC Gundam background — but if you're already invested, this is the payoff.
