📖 SYNOPSIS
At just 11 years old, Kotoko Iwanaga paid a steep price — an eye and a leg — for becoming the "God of Wisdom" to the spirit world. Now 17, she spends her days settling disputes between youkai and humans, acting as a pint-sized supernatural mediator with a prosthetic leg and a sharp tongue. Then she meets Kurou Sakuragawa, a quiet university student fresh off a breakup, whose presence makes spirits genuinely uneasy. Kotoko, being Kotoko, decides she's going to date him and also recruit him to help with her youkai casework. He doesn't get much say in either.
This 12-episode TV series from Brain's Base leans more into dialogue-heavy mystery than action. Think less monster-of-the-week and more "how do we construct a logical narrative to defeat a supernatural rumor." The central mystery arc involves building counter-arguments and fabricated truths rather than throwing punches, which is genuinely refreshing. The romance between Kotoko and Kurou runs underneath everything — she's aggressively forward, he's stoic and evasive, and their dynamic carries a lot of the charm.
If you liked the supernatural banter of Bakemonogatari or the gothic detective energy of Gosick, this hits a similar frequency. It also shares DNA with The Mystic Archives of Dantalian in how it blends folklore with intellectual problem-solving. The tone stays mysterious and a little romantic without ever getting heavy-handed about either. Just know going in that this is a talker, not a brawler, and you'll have a good time.
