Synopsis

Takumi Fujiwara was already racing his beaten-up Toyota AE86 down mountain passes long before cars ever meant anything to him — his dad just needed tofu delivered. Now, after years of battles as part of Project D, he's facing his final opponent, and the matchup is almost poetic. Shinji Inui is a 17-year-old kid who also drives an AE86, knows every curve of his home course by heart, and learned to drive practically before he could walk. The parallels between them are hard to ignore — it's like Takumi is staring at a mirror from a few years back. This is a 4-episode TV series that wraps up the entire Initial D saga, so it's laser-focused. No filler arcs, no side detours. Just one rivalry, one mountain, and two drivers in the same car pushing it to its limits. The Eurobeat soundtrack still hits exactly the way you remember, and the racing sequences feel tense because they earn it through character work rather than spectacle alone. There's a genuine weight to this being the end of Takumi's story. If you liked Wangan Midnight's obsessive driver psychology or the raw intensity of Redline, this scratches a similar itch but in a more grounded, emotionally resonant way. You'll want to have seen the earlier Initial D stages first, obviously, but if you've followed the journey this far, Final Stage is the conclusion that story deserves.
