New Initial D Movie: Battle Digest
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Every morning while the sky is still dark, Takumi Fujiwara races a beat-up Toyota AE86 down a mountain pass to deliver tofu for his dad. He doesn't care about cars, doesn't follow the local racing scene, and has no idea he's basically become the best downhill driver in the region just by trying not to spill tofu. That's the setup for Initial D, and this OVA — Battle Digest — takes all the key race sequences from the New Initial D Legend trilogy and stitches them together with a fresh soundtrack. Think of it as a highlight reel of Takumi going up against increasingly serious opponents, from the Takahashi brothers and their RedSuns crew to other challengers who can't figure out how an underpowered hatchback keeps beating them on the touge. The CG animation from SANZIGEN and LIDENFILMS gives the racing a slick, fluid look, and the car physics feel grounded enough that you buy into each pass and drift. If you've already seen the Legend films, this is a tighter, more focused cut that drops the downtime and just lets the races breathe. If you liked MF Ghost or Wangan Midnight and want to see where that lineage started in modern animation, this is a clean entry point. It's one episode, pure racing, no filler — just mountain roads, engine noise, and a kid who doesn't realize how good he is.
