Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After leaving Tokyo for Hokkaido in the dead of winter, Tsubasa Shiki almost immediately regrets it. The guy is completely unprepared — freezing, lost, and stranded in a landscape that looks beautiful but feels like it's actively trying to kill him. Then he meets Minami Fuyuki at a bus stop, a local gyaru who's somehow rocking a short skirt in sub-zero temperatures like it's nothing. She's loud, warm, and way too friendly for someone he just met, and she basically saves him from becoming a Tokyo-shaped popsicle. From there, this 12-episode TV series settles into a cozy rhythm of Tsubasa adjusting to small-town Hokkaido life while his relationship with Minami slowly develops. The comedy leans on the culture shock between city kid and countryside native — the distances between places, the cold that never lets up, the local dialect that Tsubasa can barely follow. What makes it stand out from the usual romcom setup is the Hokkaido setting itself. The snow-covered scenery gives the whole thing a distinct visual identity, and the show actually takes time to highlight regional quirks and culture rather than just using it as wallpaper. The romance moves at a gentle pace, more about warmth building between two people than dramatic confessions. If you liked the gyaru dynamic in My First Girlfriend is a Gal or the slow-burn school romance vibes of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, this one fits right in that lane — just colder and a lot more snow.
