Heaven Official's Blessing Short Film
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Meet a god who keeps getting fired. Once a beloved Crown Prince of the heavens, Xie Lian has been ascended and demoted so many times that he's basically the celestial equivalent of that coworker who can't catch a break. Now scraping by as a low-ranking deity doing odd jobs in the mortal world, he crosses paths with Hua Cheng — a red-clad figure with immense power, a sharp tongue, and an inexplicable devotion to Xie Lian that raises a lot of questions. This ONA from Red Dog Culture House gives you three short films exploring key moments in their relationship: their first meeting, a night wandering through the Ghost Market during the Lantern Festival, and an underwater sequence that leads them back to Ghost City. Each one is visually gorgeous, leaning hard into Chinese mythology and historical aesthetics in a way that feels lived-in rather than decorative. The dynamic between the two leads carries everything — Xie Lian's quiet resilience paired with Hua Cheng's enigmatic intensity gives even the smaller, quieter scenes real weight. If you liked Mo Dao Zu Shi or Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, this lives in that same space of fantasy, mythology, and layered character relationships. Think of it as a companion piece to the main Heaven Official's Blessing series — condensed, beautiful, and focused on the emotional core that makes the story work. Good entry point if you're curious about the franchise, too.
