In a Distant Time OVA 2
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Dragged by the White Dragon into Kyō — a Heian-period city that's basically Kyoto but steeped in political chaos and apocalyptic dread — modern high school girl Karin goes from minding her own business to being thrown into a world she never asked for. The emperor and the retired emperor are locked in a power struggle, the people are terrified, and the world apparently needs a Priestess of the Dragon God to hold everything together. The catch? Someone already has that job. A woman named Taira no Chitose has already been recognized as the priestess, which means the eight guardian warriors — the Hachiyō — have zero reason to trust Karin or believe she's the real deal. So she's not just dropped into a foreign world with no way home; she's dropped into one where people are actively skeptical she belongs there. The early episodes are really about her trying to earn that trust while navigating court politics she has no context for. It's got that same pull as Fushigi Yuugi or The Twelve Kingdoms — girl from modern Japan, historical fantasy world, surrounded by compelling male characters — but the rival priestess angle gives it a sharper edge than the usual isekai setup. If you liked Inuyasha's blend of romance and historical Japan but want something more court intrigue than demon-slaying, this three-episode OVA scratches that itch without a massive time commitment.
