Devil Hunter Yohko
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Homework and crushes are the biggest concerns on Yohko Mano's mind — until her grandmother sits her down and explains that she's the 108th in an unbroken line of demon hunters, and the forces of darkness are already closing in. That's a lot to process before graduation. This 5-episode OVA from Madhouse leans into the absurdity of that setup without losing its edge. The horror is genuinely spooky in places, but the show never forgets that its protagonist is a teenager being thrown headfirst into a destiny she didn't ask for, which keeps things grounded in a weird, charming way. The early 90s animation has that particular texture — fluid action sequences, expressive faces, a color palette that feels warm even during the darker moments. If you watched Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl and liked the idea of an ordinary girl inheriting a warrior's legacy, this covers similar ground but skews harder into supernatural horror. Fans of Omamori Himari will also recognize the blend of school comedy and demon-fighting chaos. It's a short watch that doesn't overstay its welcome, and the coming-of-age framing gives Yohko's story actual stakes beyond just punching demons. Don't expect deep lore — expect a fun, occasionally creepy ride with a protagonist worth rooting for.
