Call of the Night
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Fourteen-year-old insomniac Kou Yamori wanders the streets at night because he's given up on school, socializing, and pretty much everything about normal life. Then he meets a vampire named Nazuna Nanakusa who bites his neck and helps him sleep for the first time in weeks. Kou Yamori should probably be terrified, but instead he decides he wants to become a vampire too. The catch? You can only turn if you genuinely fall in love with the one who bites you. So now this emotionally stunted kid who doesn't even understand what love is has to figure it out — with a centuries-old vampire who spends her nights flirting, drinking blood, and being aggressively unhelpful about the whole romance thing. The real draw here is the vibe. LIDENFILMS nailed the atmosphere in this 13-episode TV series — every frame drips with neon-lit cityscapes, empty streets, and that specific feeling of being awake at 3 AM when the world feels like it belongs to you. The soundtrack leans into that nocturnal mood hard, and the chemistry between Kou and Nazuna carries the whole thing with this low-key tension that never rushes itself. If you liked the weird supernatural banter in Bakemonogatari or the oddball relationship dynamics in Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, this hits a similar sweet spot. It's a romance wrapped in vampire lore, but really it's about a kid figuring out what he actually wants from life — just after midnight.
