Engaged to the Unidentified
Oshimeter
Synopsis
On her 16th birthday, Kobeni Yonomori discovers she's been engaged to a guy she doesn't remember, thanks to a deal her dead grandfather made. That's already a lot to process, but then her fiancé Hakuya and his little sister Mashiro actually move into her house. Hakuya is quiet and stoic — not exactly the worst person to be surprise-engaged to, but not the most communicative either. Mashiro is a tiny, energetic kid who insists she's in high school despite looking about nine. And Kobeni's older sister Benio has a deeply concerning obsession with anything she considers cute, which Mashiro unfortunately qualifies as. The comedy mostly comes from this household dynamic, and it works. Doga Kobo's animation is clean and expressive, giving the 4-koma source material a lot of room to breathe. But what makes this more than just another arranged marriage romcom is the supernatural angle — there's something off about the Mitsumine siblings, and the show takes its time letting you piece that together. It's only 12 episodes, so it never overstays its welcome. The vibe is warm and low-stakes, closer to Kobayashi's Dragon Maid in its found-family energy than something like Nisekoi's romantic runaround. If you liked To LOVE-Ru's harem chaos but want something gentler and more grounded, this is a nice change of pace. It's cozy without being boring, funny without trying too hard.
