Synopsis

As a transfer student landing at a school full of delinquents, Arajin Tomoshibi could not care less about any of it — he just wants a girlfriend. He lands a seat next to Mahoro, the prettiest girl in class, and things seem to be going his way until he finds out her brother is the leader of one of the school's rival gangs. Then his childhood friend Matakara shows up, already neck-deep in the gang warfare, and suddenly Arajin keeps getting dragged into fights he never signed up for. Oh, and there's a genie. Like, an actual Middle Eastern folklore-style genie named Senya who gets involved in this whole delinquent mess, which is not a sentence I expected to write about a school brawler anime. This is a 12-episode original TV series from MAPPA that aired in 2024, and it has this very specific energy — imagine if Tokyo Revengers didn't take itself so seriously and someone mixed in Beelzebub's absurd comedy with a splash of Arabian Nights. The animation style leans into bold outlines and retro-inspired visuals that feel like a love letter to early 2000s delinquent shows, but with modern production quality. The soundtrack goes hard too, blending rock with traditional Japanese instrumentation in a way that just fits. If you liked Cromartie High School's comedic take on delinquent culture but wanted actual supernatural stakes and real fight choreography, this one's worth your time. It's weird, it's fun, and it knows exactly what it is.

Quick Takes

The story feels stagnant. We’re already midway through the season, yet the plot keeps circling the same dumb misunderstandings. The comedy often falls flat, and shifts from serious to goofy feel jarring. I was hoping for real character or plot growth around the genie battles.
