EPISODE CONTEXT
Episode 9 marks the transition into the fourth major arc of Bakemonogatari's five-arc structure, following the conclusion of 'Suruga Monkey' in the preceding episodes. Each arc has introduced a new girl afflicted by a different supernatural oddity, and Nadeko Sengoku's story continues that pattern while pushing the series into notably darker territory. Sitting at the season's midpoint, this arc opener sets up the back half of the show where stakes and thematic weight escalate toward the final 'Tsubasa Cat' arc.
