Angel Tales
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Goro Mutsumi can't catch a break — jobs slip through his fingers, his wallet is perpetually empty, and nothing seems to go right. After yet another failed job interview, he crosses paths with a mysterious fortune teller who promises his luck is about to turn. He's skeptical, understandably. Then he gets home and finds three young women in his apartment who claim to be his guardian angels — specifically, the reincarnations of pets he owned who passed away and loved him so much they came back to help him out. More keep showing up as the series goes on, each one carrying personality quirks from their past animal lives, which is where a lot of the comedy comes from. A former fish who spaces out staring at nothing. A bird-type who's restless and impulsive. It builds a warm, slightly chaotic household dynamic that's genuinely charming rather than just fan-servicey. If you liked Ah! My Goddess or the early episodes of Heaven's Lost Property, where the supernatural harem setup is more cozy than aggressive, this sits in that same neighborhood. It's a 12-episode TV series from 2001, so it's short and low-stakes. The premise — pets reincarnated out of pure loyalty and love — gives the whole thing an emotional undercurrent that keeps it from feeling hollow. Lighthearted, a little romantic, easy to watch.
