Aim for the Ace!: Another Match
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Three years of getting absolutely dismantled and rebuilt by her coach Jin Munakata — a former tennis legend with a brutal training style and a mysterious past — is what it took for Hiromi Oka to reach the top, and it paid off. She's now Japan's junior champion, heading to New York for an international tournament. Then Munakata collapses and gets hospitalized, and suddenly Hiromi is out there alone, facing world-class competition without the one person who believed in her before she believed in herself. That tension between how far she's come and how much further she has to go on her own is where this OVA really lives. It's a sports drama, but the tennis is almost secondary to watching a young woman figure out who she is without her mentor holding her up. The emotional weight sneaks up on you. If you grew up watching The Prince of Tennis and want something that hits harder on the character side, or if you loved the original Aim for the Ace! and want to see Hiromi's story continue, this 13-episode OVA is the natural next step. The 1980s animation has that expressive, hand-drawn warmth that modern sports anime rarely captures. It's shoujo at its core, so expect big feelings and real vulnerability alongside the match sequences. This isn't a hype-driven underdog story — it's quieter and more earned than that.
