Zombieland Saga Movie: Yumeginga Paradise
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A band of seven undead girls, resurrected as zombies, join forces as an idol group to save a rural Japanese prefecture from economic decline. That was already a wild premise across two seasons of Zombieland Saga, and now the movie decides to throw aliens into the mix. Franchouchou — led by the eternally unlucky Sakura Minamoto and managed by the unhinged producer Kotaro Tatsumi — are gearing up for their biggest gig yet at the Saga EXPO when a spaceship just kind of shows up over the prefecture. Meanwhile, Tae Yamada, the one member who's been basically feral the entire series, suddenly wakes up lucid but with zero memory of who she is, and decides she's going to fight the aliens by herself. The whole thing plays out with the same comedic energy the franchise is known for — absurd situations treated with just enough sincerity to make the emotional beats actually land. MAPPA handles the animation, so the performance sequences look great, and the original Franchouchou songs remain genuinely catchy. If you enjoyed the tonal whiplash of something like School-Live or the oddball ensemble comedy of Isekai Quartet, this hits a similar sweet spot. Fans of Sankarea might also appreciate how it treats its undead cast with real affection underneath all the jokes. It's a movie that knows exactly how ridiculous it is and leans all the way in.
