Zhi Jia Yi
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Every time she closes her eyes, the same nightmare haunts Tao Mengyan — a village she doesn't remember, rituals she shouldn't know about, and a feeling that something there is waiting for her. Based on the horror game of the same name, Zhi Jia Yi follows her as she returns to the remote Zangling Village to figure out why these dreams won't stop. What she finds is a community still practicing an ancient and deeply unsettling custom: the worship of "paper brides." And somehow, she's been chosen as the next one. The first couple episodes do a great job of building dread without rushing it. The village feels lived-in but wrong, like every corner has something you're not supposed to see. There's a slow unraveling of folklore and buried history that makes you piece things together alongside Mengyan, and the supernatural elements hit harder because the show takes its time earning them. The tone is dark and atmospheric — think rural isolation, decaying traditions, and secrets that go back centuries. If you liked the creeping village horror of Higurashi or the folk-horror tension in Shiki, this hits a similar nerve. Fans of Another might also appreciate the way it layers mystery over its scares. It's an ONA coming in 2026 from a few smaller studios, so it's flying under the radar right now, but the source material has a dedicated following for good reason. Worth keeping on your list if slow-burn supernatural horror is your thing.
