Synopsis

Madoka Kurogare and a crew of washed-out basketball players have been thrown out of the official leagues — some for mistakes they made, others just because society decided they didn't belong — and now they have nowhere left to turn. In a world where the gap between rich and poor basically determines your future, their only shot at getting back on the court is through "Zero Rise," an underground street basketball league where the stakes go way beyond the game. Together they form a team called UNFIXXX, alongside guys like Hagane "Date" Amadate and Tsukasa "Merlin" Marindo, each carrying their own baggage and trying to claw their way back to something resembling a future. The vibe here is grittier than your typical sports anime. Think less polished gymnasiums and more raw, desperate streetball where every game feels like it could be your last chance. The series leans hard into themes of redemption and class inequality, which gives it a weight that separates it from the pack. If you liked the intensity of Kuroko's Basketball but wanted something with a rougher edge, or if Ahiru no Sora's underdog spirit hit you in the chest, this one's in that neighborhood. It also has roots in stage play adaptations, so the character dynamics have a theatrical quality to them — everyone feels like they're carrying a monologue's worth of history. Produced by Nichicaline, Zero Rise is worth keeping on your radar if you're into sports anime that actually has something to say about the world outside the court.
