An otaku high school freshman, unable to revive his school's anime club, discovers a hidden talent for cycling and is recruited by the competitive bicycle racing club.

📖 SYNOPSIS

A total otaku named Sakamichi Onoda just wants to join his high school's anime club and make some friends. The club's been disbanded, though, so he's out of luck. What he doesn't realize is that years of biking 90 kilometers round-trip to Akihabara every week on a heavy, clunky city bike have turned him into a low-key cycling monster. When a serious competitive cyclist named Imaizumi spots Onoda effortlessly climbing the school's brutal rear slope on that ridiculous bike, he can't believe what he's seeing — and suddenly Onoda gets pulled into the world of high school road racing without ever planning on it. The whole appeal here is watching someone who has zero awareness of his own talent slowly discover what he's capable of when surrounded by people who push him. The cycling races are genuinely intense, with real tactics and strategy — drafting, climbing, sprinting — and the show does a great job of making you understand why each moment matters without dumbing it down. The character dynamics on Sohoku's team carry real weight, and the rivalries feel earned rather than manufactured. If you liked Haikyuu!! for its team chemistry and emotional payoffs, or Kuroko no Basket for its over-the-top competitive energy, this scratches a similar itch. At 38 episodes, it takes its time building up to the Inter-High tournament, so the stakes feel real when things finally kick off. Just don't expect to care about cycling before watching it — and then be surprised when you do.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You love underdog sports stories — Onoda's journey from shy otaku to cyclist is the core arc
Team dynamics and camaraderie matter more to you than pure action in a sports anime
Cycling as a sport genuinely interests you — the show dives into real techniques and race strategy
You're okay with a 38-episode season that takes its time building characters before big races

❌ SKIP IF...

Drawn-out race sequences frustrate you — multi-episode stretches cover single race moments
Over-the-top antagonists kill your immersion — Midousuji's grotesque behavior pushes past realism hard
You want a fresh spin on sports shonen — this follows the classic tropes pretty faithfully
