Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When an ancient seal shatters wide open in the middle of Shinjuku, unleashing the demon realm, five teenagers in mystical samurai armor are the only thing standing between humanity and a full-scale Youja invasion. Gai, a 14-year-old kid who barely had time to process being chosen as a Samurai Trooper, straps on the Armor of Blaze and steps up to lead the fight. That's the setup for Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers, a 12-episode TV series from Sunrise that picks up the legacy of the original Ronin Warriors in a modern setting. The vibe is classic armored-warrior action — think Saint Seiya's mythical power-up sequences crossed with the urban demon-hunting energy of something like Sengoku Basara — but grounded in contemporary Tokyo streets instead of ancient battlefields. The armor designs come from original designer Hideo Okamoto, and they look fantastic, mixing traditional samurai aesthetics with sleek modern tech. Shuji Katayama's soundtrack does a lot of heavy lifting too, giving the battles real weight. If you liked Ronin Warriors back in the day, this is basically the version of that story made with current production values and a tighter episode count. And if you're new to the franchise entirely, the show doesn't demand homework — you can walk in cold and follow along fine. It's earnest, it moves fast, and the action hits hard from the jump.
