Turkey! Time to Strike
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When a stray bolt of lightning strikes a high school bowling club mid-practice, all five members wake up in feudal Japan. That's the kind of premise that either completely falls apart or turns into something genuinely fun, and Turkey! Time to Strike lands on the right side of that line. Mai Otonashi can nail a turkey — three consecutive strikes — like it's nothing, but her game always collapses after that. Her club at Ikkokukan High treats their constant tournament losses as no big deal, which drives newest member Rina Godai up the wall. Rina's frustration boils over into a heated match with Mai, and right in the middle of it, a freak lightning strike sends all five members hurtling back to the Sengoku period. Now they're stuck navigating warlord-era Japan with the Tokura family, trying to figure out how to get home while their dynamic as a team gets tested in ways a bowling alley never could. The character work here is the real draw. Each girl has her own hangups about the sport and about competition itself, and dropping them into a survival scenario forces all of that to the surface. It's a 12-episode original TV series from Bakken Record that moves at a solid pace without dragging. If you liked the sports-and-heart mix of Cross Game or the historical fish-out-of-water setup from Time Travel Shoujo, this scratches a similar itch. Taisho Baseball Girls fans will also find something to appreciate in how it treats its cast with genuine warmth.
