Transformers: Wild King
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Take the Transformers franchise and crank it wild — literally. Transformers: Wild King is a 2025 ONA from Infinity Vision that takes the franchise in a direction you probably weren't expecting. Instead of the usual Autobots-vs-Decepticons setup on Earth or Cybertron, this one leans hard into a beast-mecha hybrid concept where the Transformers channel primal, animalistic power. Think less "robots in disguise" and more "robots gone feral." The early episodes set up a conflict where these wild-type Transformers are caught between factions trying to harness or destroy their untamed energy. There's a king among them — hence the title — and the power dynamics around who controls or earns that crown drive the tension forward. At 14 episodes, it doesn't overstay its welcome, which honestly is refreshing for a mecha show that could easily bloat into 50 episodes of filler. The sci-fi worldbuilding has a gritty, almost survival-of-the-fittest edge to it. If you grew up on Beast Wars and wished someone would revisit that energy with modern animation sensibilities, this scratches that itch. Fans of Zoids or even something like Getter Robo might find the raw, chaotic mecha action appealing too. It's not reinventing the wheel, but it's a compact, engaging take on Transformers that feels distinct from the mainline stuff. Worth the time if you're into mecha and want something that doesn't ask for a 100-episode commitment.
