Touring After the Apocalypse
Oshimeter
Synopsis
The world as we knew it is gone, but the sightseeing doesn't stop. Youko, a human girl, and Airi, an android, ride a solar-powered motorcycle through the overgrown ruins of Japan, visiting places like Hakone's hot springs and Tokyo Big Sight — not to scavenge or survive some desperate quest, but just to see them. They take photos, set up camp in abandoned towns, and share quiet moments in a world where they might be the only ones left. This 12-episode TV series from Studio Nexus is based on a seinen manga, and it nails a very specific mood: that peaceful melancholy of exploring somewhere beautiful that's clearly been forgotten. The post-apocalyptic landscapes are gorgeous — nature reclaiming highways, vines crawling over skyscrapers — and the show takes its time letting you soak it all in. There's no big villain, no ticking clock. The tension comes from smaller things: finding fuel, navigating collapsed roads, and the unspoken question of what it means for a human and an android to keep each other company when there's no one else around. If you liked Girls' Last Tour, this is the closest thing you'll find to that same contemplative energy. Fans of Kino's Journey will appreciate the episodic travel structure, and if Made in Abyss hooked you with its world-building but you want something gentler, this fits. It's wholesome, atmospheric, and quietly moving — the kind of show you watch before bed and think about after.
