Synopsis
Obsessive by nature, Giuseppe is the kind of guy who gets completely consumed by something and then moves on to the next fixation. The townspeople literally call him 'the obsessed man.' He's picked up a weird grab bag of random skills from all these phases, which sounds kind of useless until he meets Pechka, a quiet balloon seller who carries a sadness she doesn't talk about. Naturally, she becomes his next obsession, but instead of just being a creep about it, Giuseppe and his talking mouse companion Cielo start using all those random talents to secretly solve the problems in her life without her knowing. This is a Shin-Ei Animation movie from 2025, adapted from a novel, and it has that cozy European storybook feel — cobblestone streets, warm lighting, a pace that lets you breathe. Character designs by Masatsugu Arakawa give it a distinct look, and the original songs by atagi from Awesome City Club add genuine emotional texture rather than just background noise. The vibe lands somewhere between The Cat Returns and Whisper of the Heart — whimsical, romantic, a little melancholy underneath the charm. If you liked Kiki's Delivery Service for how it mixed quiet personal struggles with a warm, slightly magical world, this hits a similar note. It's one movie, roughly feature-length, and it's the kind of thing you put on when you want something gentle that still has real heart to it. No cynicism, no irony, just a sincere story about caring for someone through small, secret kindnesses.
