Synopsis

Nine out of ten fantasy anime hand you a teenager with a special power and send them on their way. Rick Gladiator is a 30-year-old guild clerk who's spent his adult life filing paperwork for adventurers instead of being one. In a world where people develop magical abilities before 20 or not at all, he's basically a lost cause — at least that's what everyone tells him. Then he stumbles into Reanette, a dark elf from the legendary Orichalcum Fist party, and they agree to train him. "Train" is generous. It's closer to two years of getting absolutely destroyed by some of the strongest adventurers alive. By the time Rick shows up to take his beginner E-Rank exam, he's hilariously overpowered for it, but nobody knows that yet. The fun is watching examiners and fellow rookies write him off as some washed-up old guy while he casually handles everything thrown at him. This 12-episode TV series from 2024 leans into that gap between perception and reality for both comedy and surprisingly satisfying action beats. The whole "underestimated older protagonist" angle gives it a different energy than your typical power fantasy. If you liked the grounded adventuring vibe of Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions or the guild dynamics of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, this scratches a similar itch — just with a protagonist who's old enough to have a mortgage.

This is my favorite episodes after all! Knowing that being overpowered can leave a sense of emptiness. This episode made my heart feel warm, shows that a true friend will appreciate your dream and understand you. The fight is epic, presenting an “almost” equal power between them.
Pureeeeee chaotic and comedy. An ex–F rank who trained ruthless is already S-rank level but doesn’t realize it, and watching him casually break power standards is so satisfying. The contrast between his self-doubt and actual strength makes the whole episode fun.
No matter how overpowered you are, if you doesn't train enough is meh. The pace is fast, but the story kind predictable. The fight was nice, but doesn't get into epic rate for me. This episodes have up and downs emotions that is very exciting.
