đź“– SYNOPSIS
In a single blood-soaked night of coup, Princess Yongning watches her entire family get wiped out — her father, mother, brothers, all gone. She barely escapes with her life, and the new regime declares her dead alongside the rest. But she's very much alive, furious, and now disguised as a young man named Li Chang Ge, working her way into the military ranks of the Shou province with one goal: revenge.
This 16-episode ONA from studio BIGBIGSUN adapts the manga also known as The Long Ballad, and it leans hard into Tang Dynasty politics, warfare, and the kind of slow-burn scheming where every conversation has a knife behind it. Li Chang Ge isn't some brute-force protagonist — she survives on intelligence, reading people, and staying three moves ahead while hiding who she really is. The tension of her identity unraveling is constant.
The vibe sits somewhere between emotional court drama and genuine action sequences, grounded in real historical texture. Tang Dynasty culture, military strategy, power struggles — it treats all of it with enough specificity that the world feels lived-in rather than decorative.
If you liked Mo Dao Zu Shi's blend of historical Chinese settings with strong character dynamics, or if Legend of the White Hair Brides scratched an itch for you, this one's in that lane. It's a revenge story, but it's patient about it, and Li Chang Ge earns every inch of ground she takes.
