EPISODE CONTEXT
Sitting at the three-quarter mark of this anthology adaptation, episode 6 follows the supernatural melancholy of 'Mermaid Rhapsody' by turning inward — trading oceanic fantasy for an intimate exploration of gender and identity through Toshihide's experience. Each episode in the series adapts a different Fujimoto short work, and this one represents the collection's most introspective pivot before 'Nayuta of the Prophecy' steers back toward broader, more fantastical stakes in the final stretch.
