EPISODE CONTEXT
Episode 5 marks the climax of the Yamato's initial push through the inner solar system, directly following 'Gravestone on a Frozen Field' where the crew processed early losses while pressing forward past familiar territory. The Pluto engagement represents the first major offensive operation of the voyage, testing whether this crew can function as a cohesive fighting unit. It feeds directly into 'The Sun Sets on Pluto,' which deals with the fallout and pivots the mission toward the deeper, uncharted stretch of their journey to Iscandar.
