Driven by a childhood wrestling defeat, Hikari strives to surpass Kei in all aspects of school life, unaware of his secret affection amidst their competitive rivalry.

📖 SYNOPSIS

Not once in her entire life has Hikari Hanazono lost at anything — until she met Kei Takishima when she was six. She challenged him to a wrestling match, fully expecting to win, and got completely demolished. That one loss basically rewired her entire personality. Now she's devoted her whole existence to beating this one guy, enrolling in his elite academy, clawing her way into the top-ranked "Special A" class of seven students, and she's still stuck at number two. Every. Single. Time. The thing is, Kei isn't just her rival — he's clearly in love with her, and Hikari is so laser-focused on competition that she's completely oblivious to it. That gap between what the audience sees and what Hikari sees is where most of the comedy lives, and it works really well across 24 episodes without wearing thin. The rest of the SA class — Tadashi, Akira, the Yamamoto twins, Ryuu — all get their own arcs and romantic subplots that keep things from being a one-note rivalry show. The whole vibe is wealthy-school shenanigans with genuine warmth underneath. If you liked Ouran High School Host Club's elite-school comedy or the rivals-to-romance tension in Kaichou wa Maid-sama, this fits right in that space. It's also got that same energy as early Toradora where the leads can't get out of their own way. A solid shoujo romance that knows exactly what it wants to be and commits to it.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You love the oblivious-heroine-meets-devoted-rival dynamic — Hikari and Kei nail that trope across 24 episodes
Lighthearted shoujo comedy with an elite school setting scratches the same itch as Ouran Host Club
The quirky Special A class members each get their own romance arcs — not just the main pair
You're okay with a repetitive rivalry-challenge structure if the comedic payoff keeps landing

❌ SKIP IF...

Gonzo and AIC's character designs — especially the exaggerated proportions — look dated and distracting here
You want real character growth — Hikari's obliviousness barely evolves across the full 24-episode run
You're after nuanced social commentary — the elite-school premise stays surface-level and purely decorative
