📖 SYNOPSIS
"Shirahata no Shoujo Ryuuko" depicts the harrowing experiences of Ryuko, a young girl caught in the chaos of the 1945 Battle of Okinawa. As American forces land on the island, Ryuko is forced to evacuate with her mother and younger sister, leaving her grandparents behind. The family's journey is fraught with peril, and Ryuko witnesses the devastating impact of the war. After losing her mother and sister, she continues her desperate struggle for survival alone, navigating the war-ravaged landscape. Eventually, she finds temporary safety in Japanese-occupied caves, only to witness a tragic act of desperation by the Japanese troops. The story is inspired by real-life events and a children's book, reflecting the experiences of a young Okinawan girl during the island's surrender.
