School Babysitters
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When a plane crash takes both their parents, teenager Ryuuichi Kashima becomes the sole guardian of his baby brother Kotarou — a quiet toddler who doesn't fully grasp what happened. They're taken in by the stern chairwoman of an elite academy, but there's a catch: Ryuuichi has to work at the school's daycare center, looking after the small children of the faculty. So now he's juggling high school classes, raising his little brother, and wrangling a room full of toddlers with very big personalities. This 12-episode TV series from Brain's Base is one of those shows that sneaks up on you emotionally. One moment you're laughing at a toddler doing something absurdly cute, and the next you're quietly tearing up because of how Ryuuichi handles grief while trying to hold everything together for Kotarou. The kids at the daycare aren't just props — each one has their own quirks and family dynamics that get explored in genuinely sweet ways. It never feels manipulative, just honest. If you liked Usagi Drop's exploration of unexpected parenthood or the way Barakamon uses a rural setting and kids to soften a complicated adult, this hits similar notes. It leans more into the comedy and daily life side, closer to Hanamaru Kindergarten in that sense, but with a more grounded emotional core. It's warm without being saccharine, and sad without being heavy. Good comfort watch for when you need something gentle.
