"Rennyo and His Mother" chronicles the early life of Rennyo, a pivotal figure in the restoration of Shin Buddhism in medieval Japan. The story begins with a six-year-old Rennyo, who is informed by his mother of his destiny to revitalize the Honganji lineage, the next in line to lead. Following this revelation, his mother mysteriously disappears from the temple. Driven by her words, Rennyo, despite facing significant poverty and hardship, dedicates himself to his ordained purpose. At the age of sixteen, he begins his mission to spread the teachings of Shin Buddhism across the land, carrying the weight of his lineage and the memory of his mother's unwavering faith.
