Psycho-Pass
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In a world where the government can scan your brain and decide you're a criminal before you've done anything wrong, that's everyday life in Psycho-Pass. The Sibyl System monitors every citizen's mental state, and if your stress or dark thoughts push your "Crime Coefficient" past a threshold, armed enforcers show up with guns that only fire when the system says you're a threat. Akane Tsunemori is a fresh Inspector in the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division, paired with Enforcers — people the system has already flagged as latent criminals, now working as hunting dogs on a leash. Her partner Shinya Kogami is sharp, intense, and clearly operating with his own moral compass, which doesn't always align with the system's judgment. Right from the first case, Akane is forced to question whether blind obedience to an algorithm counts as justice. Production I.G brings a cold, sleek cyberpunk world to life across 22 episodes, and the show earns its weight through genuinely uncomfortable ethical dilemmas rather than just action setpieces — though the action is there too. If you liked the philosophical tension of Ghost in the Shell or the dystopian unease of Shinsekai Yori, this sits comfortably in that space. It also shares DNA with Ergo Proxy in how it uses its sci-fi setting to poke at questions about free will and identity. The pacing is deliberate, the antagonist is one of the best in the genre, and it never talks down to you.
