EPISODE CONTEXT
Coming off the action-heavy Captain Morgan confrontation in episodes 2-3, episode 4 is a deliberate and essential narrative pause — a flashback that contextualizes everything Luffy has done and will do going forward. It introduces Shanks, one of the most significant figures in the entire series, and establishes the emotional foundation beneath Luffy's seemingly carefree personality. This backstory episode recharges the narrative before the journey pushes forward into new waters and new crewmates.
