EPISODE CONTEXT
Directly following Luffy's solo debut in Episode 1, this episode kicks off the crew-building arc that defines early One Piece by introducing Roronoa Zoro, Luffy's first major recruitment target. The Shells Town setting and its corrupt Marine leadership establish the series' recurring theme that authority doesn't equal justice. This episode sets the stage for the confrontation with Captain Morgan and the alliance that will shape Luffy's journey forward.
